On the Contour of Random Trees

چکیده

Two stochastic processes describing the contour of simply generated random trees are studied: the contour process as deened by Gutjahr and PPug 9] and the traverse process constructed of the node heights during pre-order traversal of the tree. Using mul-tivariate generating functions and singularity analysis the weak convergence of the contour process to Brownian excursion is shown and a new proof of the analogous result for the traverse process is obtained.

Random trees and applications

We discuss several connections between discrete and continuous random trees. In the discrete setting, we focus on Galton-Watson trees under various conditionings. In particular, we present a simple approach to Aldous’ theorem giving the convergence in distribution of the contour process of conditioned Galton-Watson trees towards the normalized Brownian excursion. We also briefly discuss applica...

Limit distribution of the degrees in scaled attachment random recursive trees

We study the limiting distribution of the degree of a given node in a scaled attachment random recursive tree, a generalized random recursive tree, which is introduced by Devroye et. al (2011). In a scaled attachment random recursive tree, every node $i$ is attached to the node labeled $lfloor iX_i floor$ where $X_0$, $ldots$ , $X_n$ is a sequence of i.i.d. random variables, with support in [0,...

Non-crossing trees revisited: cutting down and spanning subtrees

Here we consider two parameters for random non-crossing trees: i the number of random cuts to destroy a sizen non-crossing tree and ii the spanning subtree-size of p randomly chosen nodes in a size-n non-crossing tree. For both quantities, we are able to characterise for n ∞ the limiting distributions. Non-crossing trees are almost conditioned Galton-Watson trees, and it has been already shown,...

A Study on the Accuracy and Precision of Estimation of the Number, Basal Area and Standing Trees Volume per Hectare Using of some Sampling Methods in Forests of NavAsalem

The present study aimed to investigate the accuracy and precision estimation of the number, basal area and volume of the standing trees by methods of random and systematic random sampling in the forests of West Guilan. The cost or inventory time was determined using the criteria (E%2 × T). Inventory was carried out by complete sampling (census) in an area of 52 hectares. The study area (sect...
